Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics outlines the production landscape of China’s aluminum industry chain in April 2025. By combining it with customs import and export data, more comprehensive understanding of industry dynamics can be achieved.
In terms of alumina, the production volume reached 7.323 million tons in April, representing a year – on – year increase of 6.7%. The cumulative production from January to April amounted to 29.919 million tons, with a year-on-year growth rate of 10.7%. The steady growth of domestic production echoes the customs data, which shows that alumina exports in April were 262,875.894 tons, a significant year-on-year increase of 101.62%. This indicates that China’s alumina production not only meets domestic demand but also has strong supply capabilities in the international market. In particular, remarkable achievements have been made in market expansion to destinations such as Russia and Indonesia.
Regarding electrolytic aluminum, the production volume in April was 3.754 million tons, a year – on – year increase of 4.2%. The cumulative production from January to April totaled 14.793 million tons, with a year-on-year growth of 3.4%. Despite the increase in production, when combined with the customs data showing that primary aluminum imports in April were 250,522.134 tons (a year – on – year increase of 14.67%) and Russia being the largest supplier, it demonstrates that there is still a certain gap in domestic demand for primary aluminum, which needs to be supplemented by imports.
The output of aluminum products was 5.764 million tons in April, with a marginal year-on-year increase of 0.3%. The cumulative output from January to April reached 21.117 million tons, with a year-on-year growth of 0.9%. The relatively moderate growth rate of production reflects that the demand in the downstream market has not experienced explosive growth, and enterprises maintain a relatively stable production rhythm.
Aluminum alloy production showed outstanding performance. The output in April was 1.528 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%. The cumulative output from January to April was 5.760 million tons, with a year-on-year growth of 13.7%. This growth trend is closely related to the rising demand for aluminum alloy materials in emerging industries such as new energy vehicles and high – end equipment manufacturing, highlighting the increasing importance of aluminum alloys in the aluminum industry chain.
Overall, the production of China’s aluminum industry chain in April 2025 generally maintained a growth trend, but the growth rates of different products varied. Some products still rely on imports to regulate supply and demand. These data provide key references for industry enterprises to assess market supply and demand, formulate production plans, and adjust development strategies.
