The global primary aluminum market presented a mixed supply-and-demand landscape in August 2026, according to the latest report released by World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS). This fresh dataset delivers valuable reference for OEMs, fabricators and industrial buyers who source aluminum plate, aluminum bar, aluminum tube and custom CNC machined aluminum components.

In August, worldwide primary aluminum output reached 6.1667 million tonnes, while apparent consumption stood at 6.1053 million tonnes. The gap translated into a monthly supply surplus of 61,400 tonnes. However, the cumulative picture from January to August told a different story. Total global primary aluminum production hit 48.6471 million tonnes, against consumption of 48.7433 million tonnes, marking an accumulated supply deficit of 96,200 tonnes. This contrast highlights volatile inventory cycles and regional imbalance across the whole aluminum value chain.

Upstream raw material output also posted notable figures. Global bauxite production totalled 41.7252 million tonnes in August, with the January–August aggregate climbing to 328.2770 million tonnes. Global alumina output registered 13.4936 million tonnes for August and 103.5558 million tonnes over the first eight months. Secondary aluminum output maintained robust momentum, recording 2.50 million tonnes in August and 19.1142 million tonnes year-to-date. The expanding recycled aluminum segment underscores the industry’s shift toward circular manufacturing and low-carbon metal procurement.
