How much did global primary aluminum production increase in April 2025?

Data released by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI) shows that global primary aluminum production increased by 2.2% year-on-year in April to 6.033 million tons, calculating that global primary aluminum production in April 2024 was approximately 5.901 million tons.

In April, primary aluminum production excluding China and unreported regions was 2.218 million tons. Combined with China’s primary aluminum production of 3.754 million tons in April, the production of unreported regions can be roughly estimated at 61,000 tons.

The average daily primary aluminum production in March was 201,100 tons. With March typically having 31 days, global primary aluminum production in March was approximately 6.234 million tons.

These data indicate that global primary aluminum production declined in April 2025 compared to March but still showed year-on-year growth. China accounts for a significant proportion of global primary aluminum production and has played a crucial role in driving its growth.
