Official figures from the National Bureau of Statistics of China have unveiled the full production performance of the domestic aluminum industrial chain in April 2026, delivering mixed growth signals across upstream raw materials, primary metal and downstream processed products. The overall operational trend reflects steady expansion in basic aluminum materials, while finished aluminum products see a mild year-on-year decline, painting a clear picture for global aluminum market participants and industrial buyers.

In the upstream segment, alumina, the core raw material for electrolytic aluminum production, maintained stable growth momentum. China’s alumina output reached 7.387 million metric tons in April, marking a 2.9% year-on-year increase. For the first four months of the year, the total alumina production hit 30.031 million metric tons, with a year-on-year growth rate of 1.9%. Sufficient alumina supply lays a solid foundation for the stable operation of the entire aluminum industry chain.

As the core primary product, primary electrolytic aluminum also posted robust growth. Domestic electrolytic aluminum output stood at 3.87 million metric tons in April, rising 3.1% compared with the same period last year. The cumulative output from January to April totaled 15.325 million metric tons, representing a 3.5% year-on-year uptick. Rising electrolytic aluminum output guarantees adequate raw material supply for deep processing sectors.

Cast aluminum alloy, a key intermediate material, achieved notable growth. April output of aluminum alloys was 1.63 million metric tons, up 5.2% year on year, and the January-April cumulative volume reached 6.039 million metric tons, with a 4.6% year-on-year increase.

Differing from upstream products, fabricated aluminum products recorded a moderate downturn. China’s aluminum semi-finished products output was 5.686 million metric tons in April, a 2.3% year-on-year drop. The total output in the first four months fell 1.8% year on year to 20.872 million metric tons.
