In April, China’s exports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products increased by 15.3% year-on-year.

China’s aluminum sector posted robust export growth in April 2026, fueled by resilient global market demand and improved competitiveness of domestic aluminum products, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs. The surge highlights China’s pivotal role in the global aluminum supply chain, particularly in aluminum sheets, bars, tubes and high-precision machined components—core products of China’s aluminum processing industry.

In April 2026, China’s exports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum semis reached 600,000 metric tons (mt), marking a 15.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase. The cumulative export volume for the January–April period hit 2.05 million mt, up 8.9% YoY, reflecting sustained momentum in overseas shipments amid tight global supply dynamics. This growth is underpinned by strong demand for lightweight aluminum materials in new energy vehicles (NEVs), photovoltaic (PV) systems, aerospace and construction sectors worldwide.

Alumina exports saw an even more dramatic spike in April, jumping 96.6% YoY to 520,000 mt. The January–April alumina exports totaled 1.06 million mt, a 10.0% YoY rise. This sharp increase aligns with global shortages of alumina—a critical intermediate material for primary aluminum smelting—and underscores China’s dominance in the global alumina supply chain.

On the import side, China’s inbound volume of unwrought aluminum and aluminum semis edged down 1.9% YoY to 360,000 mt in April, while the January–April imports rose slightly by 0.6% YoY to 1.33 million mt. For aluminum ore and concentrates—the primary raw material for aluminum production—April imports fell 4.1% YoY to 19.74 million mt, yet the January–April cumulative imports climbed 15.1% YoY to 77.68 million mt, ensuring stable raw material supply for domestic aluminum smelters.

China’s aluminum processing enterprises, specializing in high-quality aluminum sheets, extruded aluminum bars, seamless aluminum tubes and custom CNC-machined aluminum parts, are well-positioned to capitalize on this export boom. These products meet stringent international standards for alloy composition, dimensional tolerance and surface finish, catering to diverse industrial applications across global markets.

Industry analysts project that China’s aluminum exports will maintain steady growth in the coming months, supported by persistent global demand for lightweight, recyclable aluminum materials and the cost competitiveness of Chinese aluminum products. As a key supplier in the global aluminum value chain, China remains committed to delivering high-quality aluminum solutions to meet the evolving needs of industrial clients worldwide.
