With brazing, surface area is you friend and distances between the host materials is you enemy. The filler itself is always going to be weaker that the host material so if you fill a large gap between two host materials then the filler will break first under stress. As strength is measured in PSI it relates to the surface area of the braze. Even though the filler is weaker you can have enough of surface area filled between the hosts to equal the host strength in the joint so that under stress the host will break first.

The downside of this v-max, though, is crippling fuel consumption. Instead of an advertised average of 15.1L/100km, the test car returned 29.1L/100km in foot-to-the-floor mode, the measly 66-litre tank empty after just 197km.

The high cost and inherently poor safety of state-of-the-art lithium batteries are among the most important barriers to broad-based electrification of transportation (1, 2). The most recent report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows that combustion of fossil fuels in transportation may be responsible for more than one-quarter of all CO2 emissions in the United States each year (3). New approaches are needed to develop electrical energy storage technology that moves beyond the cost and safety constraints that limit widespread acceptance of electrification in transportation. As the most abundant metallic element in Earth’s crust, aluminum has been of interest because it is already a widely used commodity material in global commerce and can store up to three charge equivalents per mole of the metal. As a result, Al anodes offer among the highest volume-specific storage capacities (8040 mAh cm−3) in an inherently safe material (4–6). Previous efforts to realize rechargeable batteries that live up to the promise of low cost, intrinsic safety, and high-energy storage features associated with this chemistry have been largely unsuccessful because Al readily forms a high-bandgap passivating oxide coating that makes the metal electrochemically inert in electrolytes that preserve its cost and safety features. In particular, in aqueous electrolytes, the high potentials required to drive ion transport through the passivating oxide coating easily exceed the thermodynamic stability limits for water, resulting in continuous electrolyte degradation and hydrogen generation during battery recharge. As a consequence, until recently, most Al cells, such as Al-air (7) and Al-S (8) batteries, could not be recharged in aqueous media.

Our data suggest that the N52K substitution in the K23 vaccine strain results in an artificial epitope in a critical region for virus neutralization that is not present in any of the naturally occurring TBEV strains. Antibodies generated against this artificial epitope may be less relevant for the neutralization of wild-type TBEV strains present in the environment. Since Encepur induces neutralizing antibody titers that are significantly higher for the K23 vaccine strain than for any wild-type TBEV strain, assessing the immunogenicity of Encepur in a homologous system, using the K23 vaccine strain in the neutralization assay, might overestimate the efficacy of Encepur against naturally occurring TBEV strains. For a more relevant prediction of efficacy against circulating wild-type TBEV strains, the immune response induced by Encepur should be measured against wild-type TBEV strains and not against the artificial mutant K23 vaccine strain.
