Hindalco Supplies Aluminum Battery Enclosures for Electric SUVs, Deepening New Energy Materials Layout

Indian aluminum industry leader Hindalco has announced the delivery of 10,000 custom aluminum battery enclosures to Mahindra’s electric SUV models BE 6 and XEV 9e, according to foreign media reports. Focused on core protective components for electric vehicles, Hindalco optimized its aluminum alloy material formulation to ensure the enclosures achieve both lightweight design and impact resistance, meeting the demand for high-strength, corrosion-resistant structural parts in new energy vehicles.

Meanwhile, Hindalco officially unveiled its electric vehicle parts factory in Chakan, Pune, Maharashtra, western India. The $57 million, 5-acre facility currently has an annual production capacity of 80,000 battery enclosures, with plans to double capacity to 160,000 units in the future. Equipped with advanced stamping processes and automated production lines, the factory integrates aluminum sheet cutting, forming, and welding to ensure product precision and consistency. Notably, the aluminum alloy materials used are recyclable, aligning with global low-carbon manufacturing trends.

As a leading player in India’s aluminum processing sector, Hindalco’s move aims to seize opportunities in the new energy vehicle materials market. Data shows the global electric vehicle battery enclosure market is growing at an annual rate of 12%, with lightweight aluminum sheets (density ~ 2.7g/cm³) emerging as the mainstream solution due to their low density and strong recyclability. With automakers like Mahindra accelerating electrification, Hindalco’s aluminum battery enclosures are set to further penetrate domestic and international markets, driving deeper application of aluminum materials in the new energy industry chain.
